Sunlight

This summer, I’ve been spending more time, even more time than usual, in the woods, harvesting (or filching) ferns and other plants for my own yard. Here is a photo and a poem born of my harvesting walks between the trees.

Sunlight

Sunlight
sifts

through the forest
canopy,

lightly sugars
the old stone wall,

cool, soft
with moss,

and startles
the shadows

that have retreated
there to nap.
