A Day by the Water

The poem shared here is inspired by my day by the water. I posted some photos in my previous post.

A Day by the Water

The frogs that scale
the wet stones,
the logs reaching
above the water’s sheen
to spit their tongues
at pond sprites
armored in scales
pilfered from sleeping fish,
sprites who dare each other
to dart close and fog
each frog’s glassy eyes
before the afternoon
is crushed beneath
night’s deeper heft.
