Why I Drink Tea

by Rachel Lynn Weber

Why I Drink Tea

The steam
that rises

from the kettle
will frost

the window
above the sugar bowl

where house sprites,
tinsel and speed,

will slip from the shadow
that floats

behind the cookie jar
and etch their names,

Floraspellbeetop
and Slymbalapetalgrace,

each sound a song,
elegant and strong.
