With a Straw

Here’s a way to celebrate National Poetry Month. Who will join me?

With a Straw

Siphon shadows stuffed
between the apples
clustered in a painted bowl
quiet on a counter
in a square of sunlight
that’s slipped
through the window

above the sink
and, like a frosting,
pipe that dark fragrance
on a raspberry tart,
strawberry may suffice;
pour a fine tea lightened
with honey and, after choosing

a spot near a sleeping pond,
where dragonflies churn
the air with dodge and panic,
set your treats beside
a tall, golden flower
and wait. All that is magic
will soon visit to eat, to laugh.
