The Water

Growing up near the water, living on a lake’s  shore (really a large pond), the piece shared below hopefully well illustrates a simple memory.

The Water

First, the engine’s
deep grumble,
then, beneath the boat
the prop spins,
twisting water
into a weave
of bubbles,
a silver embroidery
stitched and looped
upon the lake’s fabric,

and the children point,
the toddlers
stomping
in the shallows.

They hear the fast boats
and long to know the water.
