December Pumpkins

Believe it or not, this poem began as a tribute, of some sort, to 2016. Go figure.

December Pumpkins

The Halloween pumpkins,
three never carved into jack-o’-lanterns,
a trio of orange heads,
bald and dumb,
placed behind the tool shed,
sit without voices,
philosophers contemplating
the heft of their silence,
and I envy them.
