The Slaughter

This piece is a bit darker than my usual efforts, but, nonetheless, it appeared before me and commanded I commit it to ink.

 The Slaughter

She skipped
in white sneakers
over the leaves,

crimson and dark,
shaped
like bunny ears

scattered
over the damp earth,
refusing

to turn her eyes
upon the slaughter.
