This Treasured Horde – National Poetry Month – Day 24

“For today’s prompt, write a poem in which something is lost and then regained. Maybe a relationship is lost and then regained, or a special keepsake. Maybe it was stolen and won back. Or maybe it was in your possession the whole time, but you just didn’t know it.”

Dandelions

Dandelions,
their golden crowns,
litter the green meadow,
the lost horde

of a dragon’s greed
or the splayed plunder
of pirates,
dark and salty,

each treasured round
catching the sun
tempting small boys
wielding wiffle ball bats,

as Lancelot and Blackbeard
brandished swords,
to claim
what is rightfully theirs.
