Starshine – National Poetry Month – Day 22

“For today’s prompt, take the phrase “Star (blank),” replace the blank with a word or phrase, make the new phrase the title of your poem, and then, write the poem. Possible titles include: “Star-struck,” “Star Man,” “Star Wars Prequels Aren’t Star Wars Movies,” “Starter Set,” “Stark Raving Mad,” and so on. Remember: I’m totally fine with prompts that get bent a bit.”

Starshine

Tonight, it will trickle
through the blossoms
on the cherry tree
now buzzing with hornets
and fairies that dart
from petal to petal
sipping nectar
from the well
of each flower.

It will trickle, dangle
from the woven branches
like tinsel, each strand
of light brushing
the tree with the dreams
of sleeping children:
sailing beyond the moon
between the wings
of laughing dragons.
