Quiet – National Poetry Month – Day 20

This from the blog Poetic Asides.

“For today’s prompt, write a poem of what goes unsaid. Maybe it’s unrequited love, a hidden contempt, spoiler to the most recent TV show or blockbuster movie. Whatever goes unsaid, maybe write it instead.”

It’s best to listen
to the stream
that whispers
through the dark trees,
slicking round stones,

where the turtles perch,
with its stories;
its quivered beneath
the heft of dragon strides
and remembers the percussion

of goblin drums.
It’s lent its life,
cold and clear,
to the wolf
and bids fireflies

to hover above
its stories,
ballets of circles and light.
Sit near its trickle,
its rhythm,

untether your thoughts
from your name
and, like the turtles,
you’ll discover
little reason to sing

old songs.
It’s best to listen.
