The Truth of It – National Poetry Month – Day 12

Today, I’ve been prompted to write a “silly poem.”

The prompt reads, “[…] take on one (or both) of the following prompts:

  • Write a serious poem. Or…
  • Write a silly poem.”

Perhaps my poem is a bit of each.

The Truth of It

1

Chipmunks dig
air passages for dragons
sleeping in forgotten
pockets of earth and stone.

2

Meadow fairies capture
floating dandelion seeds
to insulate the nests
of aged finches and sparrows.

3

Armored with turtle shells,
fish bones, and discarded beer cans,
pond trolls strap saddles
to bullfrogs, joust with cattails,
chanting “to the death,
to the death.”
