Of Children and Wrinkles

After being sold into slavery by his brothers, and rising to a position of political and national influence in the very nation he was once a slave, Joseph greets his brothers years after they betrayed him.

Genesis 45:15

Moreover Joseph kissed all his brethren,
and wept upon them:
and after that his brethren talked with him.

Tell me, said Joseph,
and he listened to his brothers,
even as torches were lit

to carve sight
into night’s shadow

and they told stories
of their children’s laughter,
of the wrinkles that etched

their faces as time etches stone.
Sorrow and joy pooled

in Joseph’s eyes and he wept,
he wept and sang
with his brothers once again.
