Dim of Drab Birds

Do any of you have children?

Blessing for My Children

May the day
that spills

through the weave of branches
above us, tangled,
the fingers of a pentitent

old man,
may its light
settled in your eyes

so the shadows
that haunt the edge
of your thoughts

will scatter as you
step near, retreat
into the trees,

a frightened
dim of drab birds.

  1. I can see how you’d be very good at writing blessings. Ever read Anam Cara by John O’Donohue or anything by Jan Richardson? A lot of their writings are blessings for people and things and experiences and events.
