The Perfect Mother

The Perfect Mother

for my wife

She tells me,
despite the strength
bound in my arms,

the strength of trees,
the might of gods,
the gods who thunder,

quake the jagged peaks,
the coldest stone,
the sharpest stone,

I must let my children fall,
feel the pain of dirt and earth,
where all tears eventually rest,

if they’re ever to wield
the strength bound
in their arms.

  1. And SHE is a VERY wise woman! You listen to her, sir. Rescuing kids from their dilemmas (not really serious issues, of course) is really just a different kind of child abuse for it teaches them they can’t do anything on their own. (Unfortunately I speak from experience…)
