Into a Thicket

This piece began as a New Year’s poem, but turned into something else. I ever believe that the poem guides the poet. The poet possesses little power over his words.

Into a Thicket

A finch
burdens a perch
reaching

from the feeder’s lip,
pinches

a black seed
within its beak,
darts away

into a twisted
thicket of thorns,

braided vines,
resolved only
to live.
