The Year’s Final Post

It’s wet. The sky is gray. The earth is soft. The tip of each tree branch is adoned with a drop of rain.

Oh, lest I forget, Happy New Year!!

Reflections

Rain drops,
clinging
to the wood’s

bare branches,
hanging
from each

sylvan tip,
envelope
the earth

that envelopes
them,
images

etched
on their
subtle glass:

the mossy stone,
the black
oak stump

sodden with rot,
old leaves warming
the mice that skitter

beneath them,
my lazy steps
under the trees,

each stride
ushering
me deeper

into their
cool, still
eyes.

  1. I love the raindrops enveloping the earth that envelops them. Somehow it seems like an explanation of eternity! Happy New Year. Thanks for putting so much pleasure into it with your writing, S. Thomas.
