Autumn’s Gold

Autumn, just upon us, will abandon all soon, leave us to confront the harsh beauties of winter. This poem says goodbye.

Autumn’s Gold

Autumn’s
gold catches
day’s best

light; golden
leaves spark
the shadows

that lie folded
and thick
in the darkness

hovering beneath
the green pines.
It’s a promise:

breath burns
warmest
in the moments,

lonely and cold,
that quiver
before the sun,

each night,
abandons us all.
