Seduction and Honey

I often text my wife from the local grocery store. Generally, I can’t find what she needs me to find: green beans, lemon juice, mozzarella. Here’s a play on those text messages.

Text Message from A&P

The pears
seem soft:

mushy spots.
Their green

has gone brown,
wrinkled, splotched:

an old man’s scalp.
But the peaches…

firm; yet, tender
enough to fondle.

Each one,
painted with dawn

and, once I’m home,
you’ll smell them:

seduction and honey.
I’ll buy the peaches, instead.
