Diligence and Poison

A poem before the day has stolen my time. I’ll revise it later, but here it is, nonetheless.

Morning Air

Too quickly
it cools
my coffee,

as I sit
propped against
the great elm,

where the dry
leaves lie,
beneath the hornets’

nest hanging,
a gray heart,
humming –

diligence
and poison.
I’ve decided

to rest here
all day.
