Power and Genius

“Genius is the power of carrying the feelings of childhood into the powers of manhood.” – Samuel Taylor Coleridge

Power and Genius

Tonight, it’s enough
to know that in a wood
where acorns litter

the forest floor like discarded
nuggets of gold
and pine trees tangle

midnight’s depth
beneath the strength
of their limbs, a dragon,

slumbering in the dank
of its cave, lifts its head,
and breathes deep,

stoking the heat hidden
within its heart,
for I have imagined its name.
