An Important Question: Where to Nap?

After a busy Friday and a busy Saturday…

Where to Nap

In a glade of early
spring birch is my advice.

Buds, tiny dollops of green,
begin to burden each

twisted branch. Sunlight
bleaches white bark,

warms the moss
where it’s best to rest.

The glade should
rim the eastern edge

of a pond. Turtles perch
on stones that rise above

the water like bald scalps.
Dragonflies, darting between

tall grass and cat tails,
knit the air to the afternoon.

Once you hear
a frog’s sudden chirp

or a mourning dove
calling its love,

then you can sleep,
then you can dream.

  1. This is so peaceful and dreamy. I love this line: “Turtles perch on stones that rise above the water like bald scalps…” (and of course I clap like crazy for anything with a dragonfly in it! 😉 )
