And Then We Shall Die

My wife placed a small vase of red flowers on our dining room table. This is what they whispered to me today. And yes, the photo/image is of the very red flowers my poem describes.


The red flowers
filling the vase

on the table beneath
the chandelier

are content to sip
the water I’ve

offered them
and die.
