The Origin of Courage

Sometimes, Mondays only provide enough time for a short poem, a curse and a blessing.

The Origin of Courage

Having only a moment,
I thought I’d remind you
of the promise you made

last night as the raven cawed,
calling night to drape
all hope beneath

its chilled hide,
before the yellow crocus
locked it petals tight

about its fears,
and a regiment
of lightning bugs

began to stab the shadows
with its courage.

  1. How powerful those last two stanzas are. Very compelling. Sometimes our willingness to shine our little bitty light into the midst of a great big darkness is the greatest kind of courage we could show.
