Daily Prompt: Stand Still

This from WordPress:

For a moment today, time stands still — but you can tweak one thing while it’s stopped. What do you do?

Photographers, artists, poets: show us STILLNESS.

The piece presented below is from my book The Journals of Lt. Kendall Everly: a Story of the American Civil War. Here, Everly, in the dark quiet of night, is haunted by the memories of a day’s battle. Within night’s peace, Everly discovers peace does not exist.

My books are available on Amazon.com. Click the book covers on the right side of this page and you’ll be ushered to each book’s Amazon page.

Thank you for reading…and let me know what you think!!!!

Night Terrors

August 2, 1861 – Entry V

Each explosion
continues to bellow,
to thunder the caverns

of memory. The clang
when life claps death –
terrible knell.

Blood drips.
Bones splinter.
Boys scream.

These are the gremlins
that filch my sleep
and foul the breath of night.
